A Thrifty Prom

Over the weekend, my good friend sent her baby girl off to her 1st prom.  It is hard to believe that the little girl I met so long ago is old enough to go the prom.  Wanting to give her the full experience of going to prom, she did find ways of saving money.  It is prom time so maybe these ideas could help you.

She went dress shopping and found the dress she wanted except it wasn't the right color and the price tag was $700!!  Lucky for her, her dear nana is a great seamstress.

Here is a total of what she spent and saved:

Dress - $175 (fabric, patterns, zipper, thread, everything)
FREE Seamstress thanks to Nana - Priceless
Shoes - $73
Make-up - Done by a good friend for FREE
Hair - $80  (but she had to have it dyed too or it would have been cheaper)
Jewelry $50
Total Spent - $378
So she saved more on the dress than what she spent on everything!!  Quite thrifty and she got the color and the exact fit that she wanted.  Plus, nana got to do somethng special for her granddaughter that she will never forget.

Here is a couple of pictures of nana putting the finishing touches on the dress and of Nichole in her dress.  Doesn't she look beautiful?
